Knitting Prayer Cards

Prayers are printed on an 8.5" x 11" card stock sheet - 4 bookmarks to a page.  Side one is a knitter's prayer and the reverse side is a prayer for healing which can be used for items that are created for comfort.

Knitting Ministry at Trinity, Wheaton

Trinity knitters have been generous in sharing their skills over the years.  Inspired by  the book Knitting into the Mystery by Susan Izard, our knitting ministry was formed following a presentation by The Rev. Liz Stout.  Over the years, we have had many knitters working to produce the beautiful shawls and blankets.  Shawls have been given to the sick, the bereaved and families who are relocating.  Blankets have celebrated the births of babies.

Items are recorded on cards and filed in a binder, recording the name of the knitter,  the person who requested the item, and to whom it was given.  Groups of items are blessed during one of the services several times each year.  The knitters do not charge  for the shawls, rather they request a 3 skein yarn re-supply for the next projects.

The creativity of the knitters has taken off!  The knitting ministry began to create shawls in the traditional manner – knit three rows, purl three rows – our group now includes other patterns and crocheted work.  Baby blankets and lap robes have been created as well as very popular "mini-prayer squares" - pocket sized knitted squares which like all our projects, have been blessed and are available for comfort.
